National Philanthropy Day is a celebration of charitable activities and an opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact of fundraising and volunteerism. Designated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, it was formalized in the U.S. by President Ronald Reagan in 1986 and by the Canadian government in 2013.

The AFP proclaims the purpose of National Philanthropy Day as a day to “recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—to the enrichment of our world.” The day even has its own theme song written by legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch entitled “Now More Than Ever.”
